Calling all those who were the 1961 intake at BGS or BGHS.
Especially to all those who left in 1968 the ideal way to celebrate the special 50 years anniversary would be to attend the Annual Dinner on Saturday, 17th March 2018.
Nev' Miller (firstname.lastname@example.org) is organising this fantastic reunion and get-together and if you would be interested in attending such an event or want to know more, then do contact him.
He's already unearthed a few names from the past via LinkedIn etc. but has lost touch with several such as David Hall (Abs) despite having spoken with him in 2009 when they staged a Baysgarth reunion.
Apologies that this is a 'boy's picture' but you could send me others and I will publish them.
Please do email Nev' even if you cannot attend this reunion in 2018 as there may be others that are more suitable.
Cliff Turner - Life story
Cliff's life story contains a wonderful recollection of his early days in Brigg in the 1920s and 1930s, the family butchery business and starting school at Brigg Grammar School.
The characters he encountered will be familiar to many of the 'slightly older' Briggensians:
J T Daughton, Pratt, Lamb, Tiger Richards, Cabourne, Dodd, Bradley, Bumper Knight, Todd Henthorn, Dickie Thumwood, and Chips Morris.
It goes on to talk about the approachin war, his life in the navy and beyond; a great read.
The 2017 Autumn Meeting of the Golf Society took place in gale conditions on Sunday, 22nd October at Elsham Golf Club. The players did very well against the conditions with Nick Golland chipping in for a Birdie and an Eagle but the overall trophy winner was Ted Cox after a very tight contest against Roger Holmes - well played Ted.
The AGM followed the game and Allyson Golland was elected Captain for 2017-18.
Ted Cox stood down as Secretary and was roundly praised for the excellent work he had done in adding structure and organisation to revitalise the golf section. David Harness is to take over as Secretary in 2018.
John & Sylvia Wedding
John Hastings (1961-1966) - Old Briggensian and Science & Sport teacher has married Sylvia (Woodland) at Westborough Methodist Church in Scarborough.
Around 400 people attended the service with two choirs and three vicars all wanting to be part of the celebrations.
They had a wonderful day and Briggensians wish them great happiness especially as Sylvia is not too well at this time.
50 years and CountingDave Brittain writes:
What a fantastic event to walk down memory lane after 50 years since joining BGS.
Great work by organiser Robin East and helpers. Many thanks to our fantastic and generous hosts Mike and Vickie Hewson for staging the gathering.
An excellent night was had by all at Mike's farm near Newark with great hospitality, wonderful food and a few beverages to wash it all down. In addition, we were privileged to catch a glimpse of some of Mike's fantastic motorbike collection.
Thirteen attended with two regrettably not well enough on the day but altogether there are already a potential 21 contacts and should others read this then do send us a message if you attended BGS approx 1958-1965
